You must come out of the gay movement – much of the non-feminist lesbian movement mimics the patriarchal attitudes toward women held by gay men – emphasizing sexual parts rather than humanity and trivializing sexual union. As you move away from the male view of women, old habits of speech and attitudes will change and the first is your language – your way of talking about women. Taking control and finding your own reality means feeling your life as it is actually in your connections, feelings and reactions; not accepting how men use “the other” to support their own lives as your reality. “The other” as objectified parts is how they use animals. Feminism is first about self definition through language.

We are old second wave feminists beginning to organize – we are feminists as much as environmentalists – the use of the word pussy for vagina is part of the demeaning of women – reducing women to genitalia for use of others is demeaning to women – also the sexual demand, to consume the vagina as if it were food for the consumer, objectifies women and insults the reader.

Let’s move as feminists together toward an action movement for eco feminists.
