Just added you to my blogroll. I really appreciate your posts connecting veganism
and feminism. They really need to be shouted from the rooftops. Cruelty is ubiquitous.
Cruelty cannot be separated into categories. All people and all animals should be treated with respect (and friendship, if possible).
Love your post on the cruelty of dairy. On a related note, did you know that Hormone Replacement Therapy pills are created using the urine of pregnant horses? I was sickened and appalled about this. To subject these beautiful and intelligent animals to become research subjects for idiotic and brutish conceptions of medicine… Fortunately, HRT is finally on the way out. However, the exploitation of cows isn’t.
Thanks for all you do for animals…
Wow! I had no clue about HRT and horse urine. Thanks for the info, I will read up on that. Thank YOU too for all that you do!
And let me applaud you for this comment: “Cruelty cannot be separated into categories. All people and all animals should be treated with respect (and friendship, if possible).” I couldn’t agree more!
There is so much that is good on this site and I want to link to it but “Eat Pussy” is not feminist. Like Eat Prick or Suck Dick, it is aggressive and threatening – a form of saying FU to the viewer and objectifying women into sex objects and body parts.
Would you please consider deleting it? And if you do delete it, please also delete this comment.
Thanks, I have not thought about this. I am currently revamping the site after a hiatus to finish my dissertation. I will really consider this, and if I delete it delete these comments. Otherwise I will respond with my reasons not to delete it.
Please get rid of it – you can contact another eco feminist whose site I used to begin collecting the sites of other eco feminists.
She links to you as an eco feminist and I wrote her and said, Did she see the “eat pussy” thing? She said yes she hated it but there is so much other good stuff on the site – I feel the same way – so much good here.
You must come out of the gay movement – much of the non-feminist lesbian movement mimics the patriarchal attitudes toward women held by gay men – emphasizing sexual parts rather than humanity and trivializing sexual union. As you move away from the male view of women, old habits of speech and attitudes will change and the first is your language – your way of talking about women. Taking control and finding your own reality means feeling your life as it is actually in your connections, feelings and reactions; not accepting how men use “the other” to support their own lives as your reality. “The other” as objectified parts is how they use animals. Feminism is first about self definition through language.
We are old second wave feminists beginning to organize – we are feminists as much as environmentalists – the use of the word pussy for vagina is part of the demeaning of women – reducing women to genitalia for use of others is demeaning to women – also the sexual demand, to consume the vagina as if it were food for the consumer, objectifies women and insults the reader.
Let’s move as feminists together toward an action movement for eco feminists.
I am looking forward to your response and hope for your agreement,
Wow, terrific blog asking where the movement’s morals have gone. Thanks, too, for referencing Leslie Armstrong’s blog. xo
Misogyny is SO ingrained into our society, even some feminists think it’s ok to forcibly impregnate female bodies, steal their babies, and pump their breast milk until they are diseased and/or dead.
